OnePlus launched its first-ever foldable phone, the Open in India last month. Priced at Rs 1,49,999, the smartphone is now available for customers to purchase. The foldable phone comes with a feature that improves the multi-tasking experience on a larger screen. The “Open Canvas” multitasking system was launched with the smartphone helps in using multiple apps simultaneously. This feature is now reportedly coming to the OnePlus Pad.
According to a report by 9to5Google, the company has confirmed the feature’s arrival for its tablets on Reddit. During an AMA, OnePlus said that it is “working on” bringing Open Canvas to the OnePlus Pad. However, the smartphone maker didn’t confirm the exact date. This information was first spotted by OnePlus tipster @1NormalUsername.
How Open Canvas can be useful for users
Trying to use more than two apps on Android has often proved unimpressive. With Open Canvas, OnePlus takes a different approach to multitasking than what Android usually does. Instead of splitting the space, the system allows the apps to expand just off the screen.
For example, if a user opens a web browser and a messaging app, they can both be in fullscreen forms but can move back and forth when they need them. Users can also have two apps split the screen, while a third in fullscreen just a swipe or tap away.
With this feature, users can put two apps side by side and then add a third that is just offscreen. By tapping the edge of the app users can move it back into view, either kept side-by-side with another app or to take up the full display.
This can help OnePlus Pad users to utilise the bigger screen of the device in a more useful way. The tablet starts at Rs 36,499 and is available in two different RAM and storage variants. Customers can buy the device in a single Halo Green colour option.
