Meta has announced the new improved native WhatsApp app for macOS. The updated app brings multiple new features including a complete redesign to match the design language of the operating system. The updated Mac version of the WhatsApp app is also a big departure from the web.whatsapp.com based app.
But, the biggest advantage of the new app is that users can now get the latest updates and newer features on Mac as well, including the ability to take and make group calls — both audio and video.

Update your WhatsApp app
The first thing you need to do is get rid of the older WhatsApp app. Then, head to WhatsApp.com/download. Tap on the Download button below the Mac option.
Install the WhatsApp app on your Mac by double-clicking on it and moving the WhatsApp icon into the Applications folder.
Once the app has been installed, set it up using the Linked Devices option on your phone and scan the QR code shown on the screen.
After WhatsApp is up and running, you are now ready to make group audio and video calls.
Make group calls by manually selecting contacts
- Tap on the Call icon at the left side menu
- Then, Tap on the New call icon at the top and select New group call
- Select the contacts (up to 8 for video and up to 32 for audio)
- Select Audio or Video from the bottom of the popup window to make the call.
Make group calls within WhatsApp group
Another option to make group video or audio calls on WhatsApp is from existing groups. If you are planning to make a group call with people who are already in a group, then head to that group and tap on the New Call button. Select the contacts and click on either Video or Call icon to make the group call.
Create call link
The call link feature has also been added to the new Mac version of WhatsApp. Head to the Calls tab from the left panel and tap on the Create Call Link option. Then share that link with people with whom you want to join on a group call.
